GLOBAL Crop Trust Diversity Visits NACGRAB

The collaboration between NACGRAB and Global Crop Trust Diversity (Crop Trust) continues to yield positive dividends   as NACGRAB was among the institutions specially selected for the international and National Genebank Review project. The international Genebank review project is designed     to provide long term support for Institutions in upgrading the genebank. Furthermore, this project tagged “Seeds for Resilience “emanated from the National seeds collection for climate resilience and is fully funded by the Federal Republic of Germany.

The visit which took place from Thursday 10th to 14th of October 2019, had 3 delegates led by Dr. Nora Castaneda-Alveraz as the project manager, Dr. Bonny Ntare and Dr. Paula Bramel. The last two are the project reviewers.

The four day meeting featured a flurry of activities which included a power point presentation by the D/CEO of NACGRAB Dr. S. E. Aladele that detailed the history of the Centre. There was also a tour of the Genebank facilities and operations in the Centre such as seed viability testing unit, data management unit , storage system etc .The team had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with other activities in the Centre. They had meetings with the international Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA),s who are the Centre‘s major collaborator. They then held a meeting with the management of the Centre after which they visited the Okra Regeneration field at The National Horticultural Research Institute (NIHORT). The visit was concluded on Monday 14th October 2019 with a further meeting with the management of the Centre as they made their observations and recommendations known.

The   Deputy Director (Admin & Finance) while delivering his vote of thanks expressed his delight at their visit and wished them a safe trip back to their destination.
